As a service project, Clay V. (RHS Junior) is collecting food for the eighth annual SW HOPE: Feed the Hungry community food drive which supports Neighborhood House’s Emergency Food Box Program.

Neighborhood House is Southwest Portland’s primary social service agency and a local distribution center for the Oregon Food Bank.  The pantry provides emergency food boxes twice a month to 450-500 families (approximately 1,500 people a month).  SW HOPE campaign supporters have set a goal of raising 175,000 pounds of food.

Some statistics about hunger and poverty:  17% of Multnomah County residents are living in poverty.  For working poor families, employment alone does not guarantee they will have enough income to cover basic living expenses or food. A collection bin is in the lobby of the high school and donations will be accepted through March 31st.

Following is a list of the most needed items:

Dairy: condensed & powdered milk

Canned tuna

Low-sodium soups

Canned vegetables & fruits

Tomato products: sauce, paste & spaghetti sauce

100% juice

Basic Cleaning Supplies

Diapers (size 5-6)

 Your donations will be appreciated!
