Riverdale High School freshman to represent Oregon in Western Governors’ Association Art Contest

Portland, OR – May 14, 2016 – Riverdale High School freshman Caleb Jacobson’s rustic pen and ink rendition of “Opal Creek Cabin, Jawbone Flats” has been selected to represent the State of Oregon and Governor Brown’s office in the Western Governors’ Association Celebrate the West themed art contest, where contestants are challenged to create pieces inspired by their state.

Jacobson plans to donate 25% of his $200 prize money to nonprofit Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center to support their education and ecology efforts for kids.

Attending governors, their guests and the media will judge Jacobson’s artwork, along with winning pieces from the other 19 western states, at the Western Governors annual meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in mid June. Following the competition, Jacobson’s piece will be displayed for the remainder of the summer in the Governor’s office here in Oregon.

Congratulations to this young artist and advocate for his achievement, and to Riverdale art teacher David Schell.
