Dear Riverdale Grade School Family,
On behalf of the Riverdale School District Foundation, welcome to the 2012-2013 school year.
Congratulations on your choice to attend or return to Riverdale. We know there are many fine local schools to choose from. We appreciate your membership in our school community. As you know, membership in any community comes with responsibility, and opportunities to support the Riverdale Grade School abound. You can devote time to any of the myriad Parent Teacher Club (PTC) committees that enhance our excellent educational program, you can share your time with the students themselves in the classroom, the lunchroom, or on an athletic field, and you can support the grade school financially.
The Riverdale School District Foundation was created in 1993 by some members of the community who recognized the need to maintain Riverdale as a unique public school in the metropolitan area despite declining revenue from state resources. Since that time, the Foundation has raised over $13 million from parents, grandparents, neighborhood residents, alumni, and staff to maintain the level of funding required to operate the district schools annually. The Riverdale School Board has counted on disbursements from the Foundation for years to supplement the District’s annual operating budget. We in turn count on you as school families.
Please take a moment to reflect on your choice to attend Riverdale. You have committed to living in the neighborhood or spending hours each week driving to and from the school to provide your student with the best possible education. The comparatively small class sizes and quality course offerings that make Riverdale Grade School attractive to you and to others cost money. The Foundation’s Annual Campaign is designed as an opportunity for ALL to participate in a personally meaningful way to keep Riverdale Grade School a place that is distinguished among others. Other school districts recognize that public monies are insufficient to provide the level of education that parents are insisting upon. Establishing Foundations and running annual campaigns are becoming the norm for good public schools, mirroring a practice long associated with only private schools. The Riverdale Community has been and continues to be generous and serious about funding their school as is evidenced by participation rates and amounts given over the years.
Please respond promptly when the Annual Campaign is launched later this fall. Please understand that your Annual Campaign gift is not included in tuition, it is not provided for in a school transfer, and it is given in addition to contributions or dues paid to the PTC. Your contribution to the Foundation’s Annual Campaign is the way to publicly commit your support to your grade school and honor the efforts of your grade school student and their teachers.
We look forward to hearing from you after we launch the Annual Campaign. Please remember the Riverdale Foundation as you plan your family budget and charitable giving priorities. In the meantime, best wishes for a great start to the new school year.
